Many have wondered how I got my start, more specifically how I came to be where I am now. There are a great many places I could begin, but let's begin with where I lost my way.
Before I delve into that, there are a few key things to note about me. I was brought into a family of Drow nobility....as a human child, it was difficult at first for me, but I have never been treated as anything less than family. That said, my motives and my allegiances have changed over the years, but at my core, I have remained the same. I have a code of morals I stick to and always find myself tested against them....but I will never waiver.
Now, it is known now that I was once tied to an organization of assassins who prided themselves on professionalism and never taking sides in political turmoil...merely accepting jobs and washing their hands of that which came along with the jobs. We had two rules: No collateral damage, and we did not target families of our targets. Quick, clean and professional. The Shadow Rose Syndicate was honorable once....but that began to change as younger blood seeking greater profits over traditional values became the voice of the organization. My dedication began to waiver when I was given a job and partnered with one of these new young leaders. I was a prodigy. I was unlike anything they had ever seen before...and this came in part due to my father's insistent nature and having me learn how best to manipulate and read people during his constant struggle to maintain his power base. I could see what others missed...manipulate information from others with but a few words, and they were never any wiser. Pair that with my natural talents and trained physicality, and I was like a ghost. I could disappear into the shadows and take the former of others should I so choose. I was a weapon, deadly, efficient, and loyal to a fault. That was why I was assigned this job.
The target was a Noble that had been rumored to have ties to an underground slavery ring and many folk had disappeared as a result, but there was never any concrete evidence to support the rumors. He was in good standing, and the public face of his family, a merchant family that specialized in import/export business between other nations. Yunale based, and quite influential. We were to gather intelligence and obtain evidence of his dealings before eliminating him, and leave no doubt that his murder was a message. Relatively simple. After weeks of observation and study, our investigation turned up just what we needed...and the operation was in full approval. Drafting the plan, I found a way to eliminate him with no outside casualties and no way to tie us to the murder. It was perfect. At the time, I did not realize that there was an ulterior motive to this assignment. Those in charge had wanted to make an example simply to open up agreements with the nobles seedier contacts and branch into the same business. Of course I was left in the dark, and looking back, I should have known. The signs were there....but a was young, and eager to make a name for myself in order to rise through the ranks. Whilst I was attending to the assassination, my partner had kidnapped his wife and daughter, raping and torturing them before offering them as gifts to the nobles contacts. Upon learning of this, I also learned that it had been sanctioned by the council.....and it made me furious. I saw what was happening in the organization and thought I could change it....but I was wrong. Everything I stood for and thought they had stood for became a lie....but this realization and my eventual departure would not come for some time. I was young and thick headed, thinking I could change the world alone....I would eventually learn my lesson.....
